Biogest completed a further 100% grass AD plant in Southwest England

Biogest completed a further 100% grass AD plant in Southwest England
30.10.2018
  • Gas2Grid plant with gas production of 1,000 m3/h
  • AD plant can be fed with a variety of feedstock including grass silage and fresh zero cutted grass

Willand / Vienna: Willand AD site is located in the southwestern part of England, in the Devon county approximately 30 km from the county town Exeter.

The plant can be operated with a variety of feedstock including grass silage and fresh zero cut grass to produce pure biomethane, which is injected into the natural gas grid. The proof of performance test using 100% grass silage und fresh grass has been completed in August 2018.

A special characteristic of the PowerRing system and its outstanding mixing technology has proven its worth during long-term operation and possibility to operate with many different feedstocks.

The plant is fully operating since June 2018, with a consistent gas production of 1,000 m3/h. The plant has fulfilled the forecasted performance and is maintaining a stable operation. Scientific studies using simulations have determined the ideal positioning of the mixers in order to achieve the best possible level of mixing and minimum energy consumption. The PowerRing technology draws on an extremely low proportion of the power it generates, because of the mixer technique, feed in system and overall design. Furthermore, the heat losses could be massively reduced due to the insolated concrete top on the fermenter instead of the gas dome. The plant is completely automated and controlled via a user-friendly operating system.

All the measurements and parameters, which are of greatest importance to the biogas process are logged, allowing the plant processes to be recorded and permanently monitored on an ongoing basis.

The plant will be supported by the Biogest Service team.

Biogest is an internationally active biogas plant manufacturer and operator with its headquarters in Austria and subsidiaries in the UK, France, US, Italy, Romania, Serbia and the Czech Republic. More than 150 biogas plant projects generating electricity or biomethane have been completed to date. Our reference plants are located in several European countries and the global market is served by licenced partners.

As a renewable source of energy, biogas offers technological, ecological and economic advantages: energy can be generated 365 days a year, at all times of the day and night, and therefore biogas plays an important role in the mix of renewable energy from water, sun and wind. In addition to helping achieve climate protection goals, biogas also helps reduce reliance on energy imports. Decentralised energy generation also guarantees sustainable local development.
